Lee Stocks, Jr.

Mr. Rozier Lee Stocks Jr., 75, of High Point, died Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Hospice of High Point.

Mr. Stocks was born in Laurinburg, NC, October 29, 1933, to Rozier and Annie Mae Stocks, both preceded him in death. During his high school career Lee was named all-state in football, basketball, and baseball. This began his lifelong love of sports. While on summer staff at Ridgecrest Baptist Encampment he met and later married Doris Childers from Oklahoma. They were married for 53 years.

After graduation from Wake Forest University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Lee and Doris served in several churches in the Fayetteville area. In 1965 they moved their family to Zambia, Africa where they served as Baptist missionaries for 10 years. Upon returning from Africa, Lee became a chaplain at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, VA and served there for 20 years. During this time he also served as an interim pastor at many churches in Virginia. After retirement Lee became an intentional interim pastor and served churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and Hawaii. Upon retiring a second time Lee and Doris settled in High Point, NC. During his career Lee was a good listener and counselor to many people.

Family was important to Lee. He is survived by his wife, Doris, their three sons, Lee III (PJ) of Greensboro, Ralph (Tammy) of Budapest, and Tom (Paula) of Roanoke, VA, and five grandchildren, Lara of Greensboro, Amy of Buies Creek, Josh of Macon, GA, Lindsey and Ashley of Roanoke. He is also survived by an older brother, James Stocks (Anne) of Cary, and an older sister, Helen Creech of Greensboro. Lee was also blessed with many wonderful friends.

Visitation will be Friday, September 19, from 2-4 and 6-8 at Emerywood Baptist Church Gathering Area, 1300 Country Club Dr., High Point, NC 27262.

A service will be held at 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, at First Baptist Church, 401 Oakhurst St, Kernersville, NC, 27284. Prior to the service the family will also receive friends from 10-11am.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Home of High Point, 1803 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262.
