3 Nickels Campaign 2017
College Park’s Three Nickels program is one way that we demonstrate our love for people living and dying in extreme poverty around the world.
The yearly goal of Three Nickels is to have 100 College Park families or individuals pledge to give at least $1 per week, which equals 15¢ (three nickels) per day. In the past eight years, we’ve supported Heifer International, Pennies for Peace, Haiti earthquake relief, Syrian refugee relief, Watering Malawi, Soles 4 Souls, Food for the Poor, Micro loans for villages in Northern Thailand, Operation Smile, Doctors Without Borders and many other worthy programs. Last year, we gave $5,710!
For 2017, the Missions Committee decided to support international charities with strong local ties to our church and community:
Support Jacob Borders’ Peace Corps work in Kungi, Cameroon Africa. His current projects include installing a watering system on his “model farm,” which means villagers will have an option for fresh drinking water other than lugging pails and buckets from the nearby stream. (Jacob is on the far right on photo at top.)
Support Faith Action International. While Faith Action is based in Greensboro, its work extends our support of immigrants from all over the world who have settled in Greensboro. Faith Action helps immigrants meet their basic needs of food, housing, healthcare and a valid form of identification in partnership with several local agencies. Recent experience with our Syrian families underscores our desire to further support all who need our help trying to establish a new home here.
Support Nate Usey’s Peace Corps work in Grenada, West Indies, and his desire to build a computer lab for his school students. (Photo below: Nate teaching his class.)
In order to have money to send to these programs, we need your support. Simply fill out a Three Nickels pledge form and place it in an offering plate or return it to the church office. You can give weekly, monthly or for the entire year up front ($52). If you want to pay online with a credit card, just select the “3 Nickels” fund. Help fight poverty around the world by giving just three nickels a day.
In 2016, we gave $5,710 to ….
- Support Doctors without Borders in its work to stem the spread of Ebola and prepare for future outbreaks
- Aid Next Generation Nepal in its mission to rescue, rehabilitate and reconnect trafficked and exploited children with their families
- Provide clean, sustainable drinking water to rural communities through Watering Malawi
- Support the International Rescue Committee in its work to offer emergency and long-term assistance to refugees and people displaced by war, persecution and natural disaster.
